Historique
In line with the "family" models 250 GTE, 365 GT 2+2, then 365 GTC/4 and 365 GT4 2+2, of the brand with the prancing horse, the 400i was marketed in 1980. It is an evolution of the 400 which appeared in 1976 to succeed the 365 GT4 2+2. The "i" signifies the model's transition to injection, in this case Bosch K-Jetronic mechanics which was very popular at the time. Equipped with a 4.8L engine developing 310 horsepower, the 400i is capable of carrying four passengers at high speed, in the greatest comfort thanks to a spacious and luxuriously finished interior. A total of 1,306 examples (including 855 with automatic transmission) of the 400i were produced before the 412, the final evolution of the 400, took over in 1985.
The 400i that we are presenting was delivered new in France in July-August 1980 by the famous Charles Pozzi company. As the original maintenance booklet shows us, it was delivered to an enthusiast on the Côte d'Azur in the original colours that it still sports today: Celeste Blue, beige leather interior. A record of the history of the Pozzi establishments shows us that this 400i was regularly maintained by the Ferrari importer until 1990, at which time it had covered 62,500 km. Copies of the successive registration documents show us that the car moved around the Paris region and changed hands twice before being purchased in 2011 by the son of the first owner! He parted with it in 2014, the car then had 75,000 km. It then remained for a short time in the hands of a collector who got rid of it, after 3,000 km traveled, for the benefit of the last owner in 2016. The latter, a particularly meticulous collector who likes his cars to be in order, will maintain it with care at the renowned garage Zone Rouge (78). Thus in April 2017, when the car displayed a little more than 78,000 km on the odometer, a major general overhaul was carried out. Some 15,000 km have been covered since then and the car is now in very good condition. Originally French, accompanied by a file that traces all the work carried out for more than 40 years, this beautiful GT will offer you the advantage of a car that has retained all the attractions of its youth.
